Prefer: Measuring Answers Instead of Rankings
MarketingPaidPrefer tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode describe a brand across a fixed panel of prompts, then scores citations, sentiment and content gaps. Plans start at $24 a month with a 7-day trial that needs no card.
About Prefer
Ordinary SEO software asks where you rank in a list of blue links. Prefer is built for a different surface: what an answer engine says about you when a customer asks a question. It holds a fixed panel of prompts, runs them against a set of engines, and records the answer rather than a position, because there is no page ten to scroll to. Five engines ship on every self-serve plan: ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Perplexity. Enterprise adds Qwen, DeepSeek and Claude Sonnet 4, which says something about how the vendor expects this category to move. Prompt volume is the only thing the tiers scale. Starter tracks 30 prompts, Growth 150 and Scale 500, and the pricing page is explicit that tiers differ on volume and never on engine access. What comes back is several separate measurements rather than a single score. There is AI visibility, effectively share of voice across the tracked prompts. There are source citations, showing which domains get cited and therefore which publication is worth pitching. Brand sentiment records how the engines frame you. Competitor gaps show where a rival is being recommended in your place. Content AEO scores your pages on freshness, structure and readability, which is the part of the product that overlaps with ordinary on-page tooling. A prioritised action engine turns those gaps into a ranked queue, and article generation works outward from the citation data instead of starting from a blank keyword brief. Two integrations matter for trust. Connecting Google Search Console and Google Analytics requests read access only, is used solely to display your visibility inside Prefer, and can be revoked at any time. Prefer states it does not sell that data or share it between customers, which is a low bar but at least a written one. The trust page is more candid than most. It states plainly that nobody can honestly guarantee a specific ranking or placement in an answer engine, that it never invents metrics, and that where it cannot see something it says so instead of charting around the gap. It names Google Analytics 4 and PostHog as analytics providers, Endorsely for affiliate attribution and Dodo Payments as merchant of record. It also concedes being an early-stage company without formal security certifications, so expect to answer compliance questions yourself if a large customer raises them. The trial is unusually clean. Every paid plan starts with seven days free and no card, with premium features switched on, though tracked prompts are capped at 30 whichever plan you trial. If you upgrade nothing, tracking pauses and nothing is deleted, so an abandoned trial is not a way to lose the history you built. The limitation to weigh is structural. Prefer can tell you that ChatGPT described your brand inaccurately on Tuesday. It cannot make the engine change, and its pitch as an execution layer rests on content and off-page work rather than a lever it controls. Budget for the labour alongside the subscription, and treat the visibility numbers as a report card on work you still have to do.

Best For
Recommended use cases and scenarios where Prefer shines.
Pros
- Measures how answer engines describe a brand, not just where a page ranks
- All five engines are included on every self-serve tier, so Starter is not a reduced engine list
- Results split into citations, sentiment, competitor gaps and prompt coverage instead of one blended score
- Content scoring covers freshness, structure and readability, so findings point at specific pages
- Google Search Console and Analytics connect with read-only access that can be revoked
- Seven-day trial on any paid plan with no card, and tracking pauses rather than deleting if you never upgrade
Cons
- The vendor states it cannot guarantee a ranking in an answer engine, so results still depend on the work you do
- Additional models including DeepSeek and Claude are reserved for the Enterprise tier
- Early-stage vendor with no formal security certifications, which larger buyers will ask about
- Needs a genuine prompt panel to be useful, so very narrow brands may find 30 tracked prompts more than enough
- Remediation is content and off-page work that the subscription does not include
